SPECIALISTS OF PEWTER COUNTERTOPS

Craftsman since 1930

Our story

The production of Pewter countertops, a renown French craftmanship, first started during the nineteenth century. Commonly nicknamed "le Zinc", countertops are actually made of pewter, which is an exclusively natural material.
In 1930, during Art-Deco's heyday, Marcel Nectoux opened a workshop in Paris, Rue de Charonne. Ever since then, his unique savoir-faire has been passed on to the four generations of artisans that have worked for us.
In 2011, the Ateliers Nectoux moved from Paris to Dax and opened a showroom in Puteaux, South of La Défense, the Paris business district.

In 2019, Thierry Nectoux passed the torch on to Maxime Dethomas. Today, the Ateliers Nectoux are one of the last workshops in France that perpetuate this craft. We supply clients with whom we share a history - Parisian bistrots restaurants and brasseries - as well as clients throughout France and around the world: in Europe, the USA, Asia, Australia and the Middle East.

Our craftmanship

The Ateliers Nectoux design and create bespoke pewter countertops.

Entirely hand-made, the Nectoux countertops are unique. We carry on using our artisanal skills, in accordance with the craft and art we have inherited from our founder. Our proprietary Edge Profiles come from traditional moulds (some of which date back to the XIXth century). For over 90 years, our methods and tools have been the same. They constitute an essential part of our savoir-faire. No academical training exists for our trade. It is acquired here in the workshop from the more experienced workers. From the smelting of ingots to the finishing touches, the technics are the ones taught by Marcel Nectoux. They have been perfected by his son Maurice (who managed the business from 1947 to 1997) then by Thierry and Maxime.

The main advantages of our pewter countertops are their sturdiness and longevity. There is no bending or metal embossing, which enable us to strengthen small radius and curved shapes. We also design and build custom edge-profiles on request.

LABELLED "LIVING HERITAGE COMPANY"

Thanks to a more than 90-year long history, the Ateliers Nectoux Workshops are labelled "Centenarian Family Company" by virtue of our unique craftmanship

Since 2009, the Ateliers Nectoux have been awarded
the official label "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" by the Ministry of Finance and Economy. It is an acknowledgement which rewards French businesses who possess a unique and excellent know-how.

We were also awarded the 2021 Artisans d'Arts Prize by the Region Nouvelle Aquitaine and the Regional Chamber of Trade.

In 2023, we represented the Landes department at the Grand Exposition du Fabriqué en France, held at the Elysée Palace and organised by the French Presidency.

Made in France

Countertops made by the Ateliers Nectoux can be found in historical addresses such as La Grille, Le Dome (countertop refurbished in 1972), Le Cochon à l'oreille (refurbished in 1977 - 1978) in Paris, or Balthazar in New York (early 1990s).

We also supply historical places throughout Montmartre such as La Mere Catherine, Chez Eugene, Le Sabot Rouge, La Boheme, and their neighbouring troquets. Renown chefs are also supplied by us, including Christian Etchebest, Cyril Lignac, Thierry Breton, Alain Ducasse, Jean Cousseau and Yves Camdeborde, thanks to whom the spirit of bistrots and 'bistronomie' was made popular. Daniel Boulud trusted us for his bartop at 'Le Gratin' in New-York City.

Since 1930

In 1930, Marcel Nectoux opened a workshop on 74 Rue de Charonne, in Paris. Ever since he passed away in 1947, this unique craftsmanship has been passed on through three generations. The Ateliers Nectoux are one of the very last artisans who still carry out this craft.

In 2019, Maxime Dethomas succeeded Thierry Nectoux, the founder’s grandson.
