edge profile n.18

The ‘Sarah Bernhardt’, in the heart of Paris, was luxuriously refurbished in May 2019. This bistrot is shining. The glorious paintings of Laurence Brussel light the walls and celebrate the two countertops ornamented with the edge profile n.18, facing one another. They remind us of the French actress of the early XXth century, pictured as a ‘holy monster’ by Cocteau, and was one of the first movie stars to have toured worldwide.
In the edge profile n.18, there are bits of the US, of ‘The Great Gatsby’, of the lost generation. It reflects the Roaring Twenties, the excessiveness of luxury in the 1920s on the United States West Coast.
It shines on the dark oak of the countertop of the ‘Bilboquet’ in New York, a jet set restaurant in Manhattan Upper East Side. The amazing menu offers a refined and delicate cuisine. The setting is timeless. The light reflected on the clustered reliefs of the edge profile, like diamonds, attract ‘beautiful people’: it is one of Leonardo di Caprio’s favorite places, you can meet Mick Jagger, Beyonce there, and Robert de Niro is a regular customer. Great American journalists established their HQ there.
Philippe Delgrange, owner of this major establishment, is a genius. It is thus quite natural that, sitting on a vintage countertop, this edge profile is also to be found in his other restaurant ‘Flemings’ next to the renowned Hermes shop, at the edge of Central Park.
‘So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past’ Scott Fizgerald.
The countertop n.100 was refurbished with this edge profile.
